Bluetooth Earpiece Fits Perfectly

Haleigh bluetooth med.jpg

…in baby girl’s hand as a handset rather than an earpiece. Who’d da thunk an earpiece would make a perfectly fitting handset for a toddler?

Hey! Wait! No fair! I had to wait until I reached the magical Sweet 16 for my Trimline phone (remember those? how retro!) in the mid-70’s. My 22 month old granddaughter already gets to have a bluetooth earpiece?

Just kidding! She’s using Dad’s bluetooth earpiece paired with his iPhone to chit chat with Mommy while she’s away from home working. At the same time, Dad’s using the iPhone to take her picture to share with all of us. My, my…we’ve come such a long way with telephones, haven’t we?

I tried to locate an old picture taken in the mid 60’s of my younger brother standing in his high chair in the kitchen playing with the wall mounted rotary phone to share, but couldn’t find it. Even that era of telephone history was a point where we had come a long way from the wood box wall mounted crank phone the Waltons and all their neighbors used. Come to think of it, didn’t they yell, “can you hear me now?!” on their phone, too?

I remember having to wait our turn to use the phone at my Grandparent’s home. It wasn’t a matter of waiting for another family member to get off the phone, though. You had to wait until the party that shared the line aka a party line gave up the shared phone line.

And the phone numbers…EVERGREEN6-3796 rather than 386-3796. Was that supposed to make it easier to remember phone numbers? Before that you had to rely on someone who might have been known as Myrtle the local operator to connect you with the party you were calling.

Couldn’t tell a secret because that’s likely how the rest of the town found out about it because Myrtle could hear your conversation, too. What a career! I bet the National Enquirer would love to be able to hire a few Myrtles and use that old technology today, huh? Especially in Washington DC and state capitals around the country during election season. ;-)

Have you got any pictures of family or friends using old phones? I think it would be interesting and fun to see some of the old phones in use. If you do, let’s create a blogging web of telephone history. Leave a comment here with a link to the blog post where you’ve shared your telephone history, memories, and pictures.

Those Boots Were Made For…

…what WERE those Go-Go boots made for anyway? Doin’ the Pony? The Swim? Remember all that? I did just as soon as I saw in my stats that someone had landed here while searching for “70’s boots white”. Of course, the Go-Go boots were a 60’s thang. I was in the 3rd grade when I got mine.

I wore them with EVERYTHING, including the lime green and hot pink vertically striped dress and hot pink fishnet hose I had. Ya gettin’ a visual? LOL! Thought I was sumpin’ else, lemme tell ya, as did every other girl in my class who also had ‘em AND the funky, neon colored and psychodelic dresses. WHAT a memory! Thank God we didn’t yet have one of those Kodak Instant Cameras!

Ok, be nice! I was ONLY in the 3rd grade, ok?! My Mother picked out that “stylish” dress and hose, but it was one of the few times she and I actually agreed on my clothing. Ok, I can’t BELIEVE I actually wore that either!

The shoe store from which we purchased my Go-Go boots was built like the ole shoe the ole woman lived in. I’ll never forget it. How could you? Wonder if that building, er, boot is still standing? The decor inside was rather surprising when you walked into the store. Considering it looked like a big ole boot, you certainly didn’t expect to walk into a place with modern 60’s decor, but you did.

So, tell me, what were those boots made for?

Lemon yellow, orange orange, lime green, and FLAGS!

Say what?! No, I’m not talkin’ ’bout cereal! But, if you REALLY wanna understand, you ABSOLUTELY MUST go visit the blog of the Pop Art Diva! Hope sent me over there today to check out the bell bottoms on the Pop Art Diva’s blog.

When her blog loaded up on my screen I felt as though I’d entered a time machine and had been taken back to the time and place of blacklights and neon colors shining brightly inside a room that had been painted black! Remember those?! I do!

Fascinating how seeing something like that can bring back a flood of memories. Imagine the scent of incense burning…the music in the background…imagine…you tell me…. :-)

Bell bottoms? Hmmm…still have any of yours collecting dust in YOUR closet? Me neither, but, oh, the memories of ‘em! I had bright canary yellow ones, lime green ones, and, get this, a pair that were patterned after the American flag! They were red and white striped from the hips to just below the knee where the navy blue background with white stars took over the BELL. I can’t BELIEVE I wore ANY of those in PUBLIC!

Oh, and then, of course, there were the Levis that I had inverted the outer seams along the legs and re-sewn (does that make sense?) and ripped out the hems to make ‘em have fringe down the sides and on the belled bottoms. My Mama was ready to gimme a lickin’ for THAT one…LOL! Told me that if my denim jacket sprouted fringe, I wouldn’t live to wear it.

Git on over there and check it out! You’re gonna love this gal and her pop art, I’m tellin’ ya!
