Hurry! The Thanksgiving Day Feast Grocery Shopping Race Is ON!

Filed under: News, Reviews, & Observations, Food & Drink, Observations — angela @ 12:22 am

Welcome! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you won't miss the Blarties (=blog+party) on the weekends. To find out more about our Blarties check out this post, too. Looking forward to seeing you on the weekends!

I was pleasantly surprised earlier this evening when I discovered we had broken a visitor count record. Everybody’s gearing up for the Thanksgiving Day feast which resulted in a slew of visitors that had searched for “Southern Cornbread Dressing” and landed here.

So, you better hurry up and get to the grocery store ASAP and get your holiday feast groceries if you haven’t already. It always amazes me how those shelves and freezers at the grocery store get wiped out in no time flat at the last minute.

It’s as though everybody comes at once with a grocery vacuum in hand programmed to suck up all the ingredients for a holiday feast at breakneck suction and speed as soon as they enter the door. Hold on tight to your cart and its contents cuz those suckers are mighty powerful!

I bought all of mine last week. I wanted to get that job out of the way AND miss the vaccum totin’ crowd. Also, I ordered a Pumpkin Roll from our locally owned chicken diner, Jimmy’s Chicken, when I saw the sign on the front door of the restaurant. DH and I LOVE their southern fried chicken, cole slaw, and truly homemade pies so I figure their Pumpkin Roll ought to be a treat, too.

We’ll have the usual feast, roasted turkey, southern cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, and rolls along with our Pumpkin Roll and maybe a homemade pie.

I thoroughly enjoy this feast the first time around and for the next couple of days afterward. It always taste GREAT the second and third time around AND, best of all, I don’t have to cook those days. :-)

The Smart Car?

Filed under: News, Reviews, & Observations, Observations — angela @ 2:19 am

Is it smart enough to keep me safe among all the 18 wheelers, SUV’s, and 4X4 Trucks in my neck of the woods? I don’t think so. I shudder at the thought of the outcome for that lil thing after a wrestling match with many of the vehicles on America’s streets and roads. Looks as though it would fit in the center console compartment of my truck.

This is definitely not a vehicle that is practical for my needs. I drive a 4X4 Dodge Diesel, but because I work remotely I don’t have to drive very often. There’s my contribution to conserving fuel/energy. No more than what I have to drive, I am able to go a month on one tank of fuel and usually have some of that tank leftover. DH occasionally has to drive crew members to different locations so it’s not practical for his needs, either.

We have the truck because we have 10 acres and need it for various purposes around here. Not to mention all the times we’ve had to haul stuff for other family members who don’t have a truck. The Santa Fe (SUV) covers plenty of DH’s needs. He can haul other people around comfortably, haul equipment necessary for his job, and it makes a great grocery-getter when I have him stop off at the grocery store on his way home, too.

I can see some teens taking a liking to this lil go-cart, but, frankly, not too many others. Where’s the roll-bars? The lil dune-buggy looks as though it could use some. Do you like it? Will it meet your needs? Would you buy it? Are you concerned for your and your passengers’ safety?

It’s Cheaper to Shoot ‘Em…S’pecially Two of ‘Em

Filed under: News, Reviews, & Observations, Observations — angela @ 1:19 am

Uh-huh, I thought that headline would get your attention. It got DH’s attention when I met him on the side of the highway last night, too. Now, he didn’t really need for ME to get his attention because the Buck that ran into the driver’s side of his vehicle had already gotten his attention.

Word must be spreadin’ rapidly among the deer population that DH has, or shall I say HAD, a brand spankin’ new vehicle that needs to be “broken in”. Last night was the SECOND time in 10 days that he has hit a deer in this brand spankin’ new vehicle. Time to trade?

He hadn’t even gotten it into the body shop to get it repaired after hitting the first one yet. They’ve ordered the parts, but we’ve been waiting for the body shop to receive them. Well, chalk up another job for the body shop cuz THIS time he not only needs a grill, air conditioner parts, and front left fender…he now ALSO needs a hood and possibly a door for the driver.

That first one did $3000 worth of damage to DH’s Santa Fe. I can just imagine what THIS one’s going to cost. He didn’t keep the first one, but he called me out to meet him with the truck this time so I could drag this s’pensive meat back home for dinner. Yep, roadkill…remember, we live in Arkansas. ;-) (DON’T go there…I still have my teeth…[shut-up, Jeff ;-) ])
