Baby Boomer Celebrity Inducted into Diva Web of Fame

Baby Boomer Celebrity R&B Singer Natalie Cole has been inducted into the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame. The idea to establish a Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame is the brainchild of baby boomer author Beverly Mahone who says, “This is my way to recognize baby boomer women who are on the move and making a difference. Natalie Cole represents what it means to be a baby boomer diva. She’s Divine, Inspirational, Vivacious and Anointed. The author of Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age adds, “Members of my generation grew up listening to songs by her famous dad, Nat King Cole so it is fitting that she would be included in my elite group of women.

Ms. Mahone selected the famous daughter of Nat King Cole after meeting her during a Women’s Empowerment Event in Raleigh, NC. Mahone says she was totally impressed by Natalie Cole and her message. Mahone says, “Her famous dad wooed audiences back in the 1950s and ‘60s with a variety of hits including, Unforgettable, Mona Lisa and Lazy, Hazy Crazy Days of Summer. Natalie continues to woo audiences today with her incredible voice and empowering message of being a survivor against all odds. It is an honor to welcome her into our exclusive club!” To qualify for the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame, Ms. Mahone says a woman must meet the following criteria:

1) Born between 1946 and 1960
2) Pursuing her passion in life
3) Striving to help others succeed
4) Have overcome one major personal or professional challenge/obstacle
5) Accept aging with grace, dignity and style

Natalie Cole joins 23 other women in becoming a part of the inaugural group. To see the entire group of women visit Ms. Mahone’s website: www.enjoyyourmenopause.com

If Cookbook Shelves Could Talk

Sponsored Post

Would they peek over your shoulder as you cook and tell you the right way to do it? No, seriously, as I stood in front of my microwave waiting patiently for my bowl of lima beans to reheat, I glanced up to my shelf of cookbooks and had a hmmm… moment. I realized how much someone could determine about a person just by checking out their collection of cookbooks.

If someone were to take stock of my collection, they would see that I have studied a number of different diet plans, love southern cooking (naturally, I’m from the South [USA] ;-) ), enjoy learning about food from other regions, and last but definitely not least in my eyes, that I prefer to cook things from scratch.

My favorite cookbook is Household Searhlight Recipe Book published by Capper Press in Topeka, KS. It was given to DH and me by my mother-in-law years ago. DH already had a worn copy of it when we first married which I wore out even more and so badly that the front hardcover of the book came off. After mentioning to my MIL how much I loved that one and wished I knew where to find another copy, she presented me with a new copy of it for Christmas that year. Thoughtful lady. :-)

This cookbook was first published in 1931, has been printed in 32 editions, and made its way into over 2 million homes over the years. It’s a vintage cookbook, but you can find one easily by doing a search for it on the internet. If you’re looking for quick and easy or healthy recipes you won’t find them in this cookbook. What you’ll get is a cookbook broken down into 24 category chapters with over 300 pages of recipes literally made from scratch. It is the one cookbook that taught me cooking basics and reminded me of many things my grandmothers prepared.

What would your cookbooks tell about you? What is you favorite cookbook? Why?

A Father’s Gift to His Son

With Father’s Day just around the corner on June 17th I thought the excerpt from To a Child Love is Spelled T~I~M~E would be very enlightening not only to fathers, but also to mothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anybody else that can give the gift of making a difference in the life of a child. The excerpt is a poignant story of a father’s discovery of his own gift to his son. (more…)
