Goodbye Laptop! Hello Portable Firefox Browser!

YO! Baby Boomer Online News, WHY are YOU polling MY RSS Feed from my post at Goodbye Laptop! Hello Portable Firefox Browser?

This mobile stuff just keeps getting better and better. Ok, so some of you already know about most of this stuff, but I didn’t. Upgrading to a Blackberry has opened up a whole new mobile world for me. While surfing blogs about mobile technology I discovered Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition on a post at Web Worker Daily. Perfect!

I KNEW I’d find another good use for the 1GB Mini SD card that came already in my Blackberry! See, I replaced that one with a SanDisk 8GB microSDHC Card (SDSDQ-8192, Bulk Package) so the 1GB is free for the taking now and the portable edition of Firefox, among other things, is going to take it and cruise around in my shiny thumb drive.

So what’s the point of the portable edition of Firefox? Well, I’ve got tons of Firefox plugins, links, etc. that aren’t available when I use another computer. Yes, I have an iGoogle page full of links, calendars, gadgets and other stuff, but that’s nothing like actually having your own personalized browser available most anyplace you go.

The laptop is moving into a part time position as I’ll only need it mainly for more secure purposes now and then. With the help of gotomypc.com, I’ve already been able to cut down on lugging the laptop along to some business appointments. My shoulder is much happier these days. Now to get the kitchen sink out of my purse.

Hmmm…looking over at my Digsby Buddy List (thank you, Heidi!) and wondering if it’s possible for it to ride along on my thumb drive with the portable edition of Firefox? My Blackberry takes care of all communication, but that’s a thought to consider for those without a BB. Making a note to look into it.

Twitter…My New Alarm Clock

Ahhhhh, yes, I was awakened this morning, gently fortunately, by Twitter notifications coming from my Blackberry which was on my nightstand. I’m new to using Twitter so I really haven’t formed a full opinion yet. However, I must say it was rather nice to be awakened by a gentle sound alerting me to the many “Good mornings!” popping up on Twitter from across the country.

I signed up for Twitter months ago, but couldn’t quite figure out just what all the hullabaloo was about until I discovered a bunch of my cyber friends and acquaintances were also on Twitter. Now I can see how useful this little tool can be and fun at the same time. After Twittering over the weekend I see Twitter can be a useful tool when you want to make an business or personal announcement, have a question, or simply need to know you’re not alone in the world while in your home office or tethered to some mobile device.

How else is Twitter useful? Got any suggestions? What do you like most about Twitter?

***Update*** Seems Twitter is a really useful tool in times of an emergency such as the LA earthquake that hit a bit ago. Lots of Twitters relaying their experience and notifying family & friends of their well-being.
