Happy Thursday Boomer Peeps! I want to tell you how much I enjoy your company and love hearing from you, and I know Angela shares my enthusiasm. Last weekend’s Blarty/Chocoblarty was a Rush, a Chocolate Rush, from here to GoingLikeSixty and back again. The consensus is we Love Good Music, Friends, and Chocolate! HelllooO!
Hey, I gotta question for ya, no it’s not multiple choice, simply a yes or no answer. I was wondering, have you ever had Chocolate Gravy and Cathead Biscuits? You know we women are curious creatures by nature. How many times have I mentioned either of the two and been looked at like I had five eyes?
Cathead biscuits are huge homemade biscuits, rounded on top, roughly the size of a cat’s head, hence the name. Chocolate gravy needs no explanation, it speaks for itself. I grew up on this stuff.
I remember those cold winter mornings before getting ready for school. I would stagger into the kitchen, sit down and sink my teeth into a plate of fresh out of the oven cathead biscuits slathered with melted butter and covered with hot chocolate gravy. Good Golly Miss Molly, talk about Leg Slappin’, Lip Smackin’, Finger Lickin’ good! The marriage of these two foods was intoxicating. I didn’t know whether to tie my watch or wind my shoes!
Chocolate Gravy
1 Cup Sugar
¼ Cup Flour
3 Tablespoons Cocoa
2 Cups Milk
½ Teaspoon Vanilla
2 Tablespoons Butter
Sift together dry ingredients (sugar, flour, cocoa) in heavy 2-quart saucepan, blend thoroughly, add milk. Heat and stir over medium heat until gravy is hot and reaches desired consistency; you may need to add a little milk to get the desired thickness. Remove from heat and add vanilla and butter, mixing until butter is melted. Serve immediately over hot, homemade buttered cathead biscuits. You can use the frozen Pillsbury Buttermilk or Southern Style biscuits. I wouldn’t recommend canned biscuits.
Bon Appetite
