Marie LeVeaux

Welcome! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you won't miss the Blarties (=blog+party) on the weekends. To find out more about our Blarties check out this post, too. Looking forward to seeing you on the weekends!

Hello Boomer readers, I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day. I took advantage of the three-day weekend and went to visit some family “down in Lou-isiana where the black trees grow”. Boy, a body can do some damage down there with all the fresh seafood and Good Eats. I’m not even Catholic, but I feel the need to go to confession.

If you ever find yourself traveling I-10 through southern Louisiana, plan to stop in Lafayette, the heart of Cajun country, and check out DeanO’s, “Italian Food with a Cajun Flair”; there’s also one in Baton Rouge.

DeanO’s offers design-your-own and specialty pizzas, poboys, pasta, salads, and Fried Oreos, e.g. an Oreo encased in a pizza dough ball, deep fried, drizzled with chocolate, and sprinkled with powdered sugar!

What keeps me going back for more is their Marie LeVeaux, a specialty pizza with “Blue Point” Crabs sautéed with mushrooms, onions, and spices. Oh the Voo they Doo! If you’re not a Seafood lover like me, don’t worry they have something for everyone.

DeanO’s began in 1971 and has always been family owned and run. Boasting made-from-scratch sauces, a patented blend of spices; and they still use brick ovens. Pizzas can be frozen upon request with prior notice for taking home to bake. Sizes range from a six inch (personal) to a giant fourteen inch, and you can get either regular or whole wheat crusts.

I contacted DeanO’s (www.deanospizza.com) and asked if they ship, sorry I don’t have better news, but currently they do not. If that changes, I’m all over it, and I’ll be the first to let you know.

  7. MARIEEEEEEEEEEEEE LAVEAUX!!
Sheesh … talk about yer memories:

I had that when I was in Nuuuuuu-Awwwleeenz a few years back. Hope, it’s a DYNAMITE dish, but with a WARNIN’: If you’re not usedta good Cajun food — like your peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich sunnyside up in a school lunchbox — you’re in for a bit of a shock!

It’s also a fave song of mine by Bobby Bare (kinda freaky when ya hear the scream, followed by “another man done gone!” Mebbe THAT’S why I’m still unattached. Dunno …).

Anyway, do ya know the story of the ummm, “lady” behind the song?

Angela, save some of those Fried Oreos for me! My sis and I usedta make those when mama and daddy weren’t lookin’ (awright, I’ll admit: It was ME who nearly caught fire to the kitchen that October night in ‘62!).

  8. Hey Relic, yeah I am familiar with the story of Marie LaVeaux, did the Voodoo tour. I luv Nawlins; cajun food, music, Fado Do, Jolie Blonde.

The history of Nawlins fascinates me. I’m a big seafood lover too…even luv gator.

Bobby Bare’s Marie LaVeaux is a fun sing-a-long..but I can’t carry a tune, so I have to turn the music up!

  9. Pantin’…ok, (gaspin’ for breath…), ok, I’m back. I’ve been ALL OVER town lookin’ for Oreos, pizza dough, chocolate and powdered sugar….Phew! Gotta catch my breath!

Relic…whup! What do I need to do to make sure I don’t paint my kitchen with oreos or fire?!

    Comment by angela — September 5, 2007 @ 4:53 pm

  10. Awwww, it’s okay if ya wanna paint yer kitchen with Oreos (I prefer Reeces, myself. That way, my dog washes the walls for me as he tries to lick it off!). As far as FIRE goes … well, just gotta be careful … and over twelve years old … and not have a sister who’ll squeal on ya and getcher butt in trouble … and …

ummm, I’ll just leave it up to you, Angela!

Hope, I tried gator … once! Couldn’t watch another episode of The Crocodile Hunter without feelin’ pangs of GUILT!
Jolie Blon … you and I oughtta talk more … we’re DEFINITELY on the same page (I mean, not just HERE … I mean … we THINK alike … )
After comin’ back from New Orleans (to me, one of the two bravest cities in the world; the other’s NYC), I went again thanx to a musical associate, Mac Rebennack (Dr. John). One thing I LOVE about that area is that, no matter WHAT hits ‘em, they’re LOYAL to their Loozeeannna stonghold.

  11. Hey Relic,

No pangs of guilt here, better the gator than Me.

Crawfish boils, Gator, Jambalaya, Chank-a Chank (Mulates) AAhhheeeee!

Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez..Let The Good Times Roll

Luv NYC too, The Energy!! The city that never sleeps.
