Boomer Barbies?!

Well! Bust my britches and bless my soul! I didn’t know there was a Barbie Grandma now! Of course I should’ve known Mattel would come up with a grandma version of Barbie. Personally I think it would’ve been more demographically correct to name her “Boomer Barbie”. After all, she doesn’t look a day over 60, don’t cha think? I can’t wait to hear what The Baby Boomer Diva has to say about this!

Better yet, they should’ve decked her out in a Boomer Biker Babe outfit, named her “Rockin’ Mamaw” and gave her a Harley. We mustn’t forget about Ken and his Harley! I mean, hey, the kids are all grown and the dog died…why not hit the road like so many other Boomers these days and be foot loose and fancy free now?!

I discovered Grandma when I went in search of the cheerleader Barbies as my 5 yr old granddaughter calls them. The cheerleader Barbies she’s referring to are actually the Barbie Pom Pom Divas aka Fly Girls (wonder just how high they fly ;-) ). While searching not only did I discover the grandma Barbie, but I also found out Midge is expecting! Yep, you read that right! Midge is expecting a baby!

Now, hang on Lucy, think about this a minute. Barbie and Midge are best friends…they’re Boomers just like us…one’s a grandma and one’s expecting. I’d say Mattel has done a pretty good job of keeping up with the “possibilities” of today (although Midge isn’t graying like her friend, Barbie)…maybe not with what the majority of us would do at this time in our lives, but hats off to ‘em for giving our generation credit for major advancements in the medical field anyway.

FTR that link to the pic of the grandma Barbie is NOT a sponsored link. Somehow I couldn’t bring myself to exploit Barbie after giving my original Barbie and Midge dolls to my own daughters when they were 4 and 2 years old. May they rest in peace. :-(

  1. Who is calling the shots at Mattel these days??? It’s got to be some youngster under the age of 40 who has NO CLUE. Doesn’t he realize he could make a fortune just by having all of us “Boomer Babes” purchase a doll for our collection if she were a sharp looking “Boomer Barbie” (as you suggsted Angela)? I think we should start a petition in objection to this so-called updated version of Barbie. I certainly won’t be buying one for any little girls I know. But I guess if it’s any consolation, she ISN’T blonde.

  3. Why not have a sophisticated looking Barbie who looks BETTER than the daughter? There are quite a few grandmas out here who rival their daughters in the beauty dept.

  4. I’ll second that one. Think they can create some APPEALING looks and fashion for Boomer Barbie that will shake up and wake up the fashion industry for Boomer women? Some of the stuff the fashion industry comes up with for Boomer women…well-l-l-l, almost makes ya wanna…oh, well, maybe I better not say that. ;-)
