Sell Your Blog or Continue Blogging to Fund Future Retirement?

Welcome! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you won't miss the Blarties (=blog+party) on the weekends. To find out more about our Blarties check out this post, too. Looking forward to seeing you on the weekends!

After reading Jonathan Phillips’ blog post, Would You Consider Selling?, I got to wondering how many bloggers, especially Baby Boomers, are blogging not only as a means of producing current income, but how many are taking into consideration ways to earn income from blogging to invest for future retirement? The focus of Jonathan’s question is whether or not you would consider selling your blog if an interested party made an offer to purchase.

If my blog was monetarily successful I would have to consider whether or not keeping a financially lucrative blog would be a better long term investment than selling it and investing the money otherwise. Or, would I reap greater financial benefits for retirement by continuing with the particular blog myself and investing some or all of the residual income produced for retirement? A blog is online real estate and in the offline world wouldn’t you take such into consideration if you sold real estate property that produced income?

I’m not an expert in investing and should’ve made it a point to learn more about preparing financially for retirement a long time ago. So, anything you have to share about this subject will be appreciated. I’m always open to learning so what can you teach others and me about blogging as an investment of some sort?

Is Your Career History a Part of Your Family or Personal History?

After reading Larry Lehmer’s kind and thoughtful comment on The Passing of the Family History and Memories Torch, I visited his blog, Passing It On. One post in particular, What’s in a name, You decide, grabbed my attention.

Larry wrote about the difference in family history and personal history and how interchangeable they are to some, especially those not as familiar with genealogy terms. As far as he’s concerned they are one and the same. I can’t think of any different labels or just exactly where you would draw the line as far as the difference in family history and personal history.

Questioning the difference reminded me of one of my posts about documenting and preserving your career/employment history which I’m sure your descendants would appreciate. Depending on whether or not any of your descendants followed in your footsteps, I suppose your career history could be considered more of a personal nature.

Imagine your descendants finding such a treasure on a DVD or CD or some other modern version of the old trunk in the attic years from now. Have you ever found career information about any of your ancestors all together in one place or in a manner similar to a career portfolio? How detailed was it? Did it provide unknown information someone in another family may find fascinating about their family history?

Anybody Have a Clue…

Filed under: News, Reviews, & Observations, Parenting & Grandparenting — angela @ 9:04 pm

…what this is, “jnb bvvftfrt erre 5t ngy vg”? Just wondering if you can help me figure out what a 15 month old toddler would be searching for on Google. :-)

Sat back down at my dining room table where I have my laptop stationed for the time being after running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to keep up with The Toddler and found that in the Google search on my toolbar. An hour or so earlier one of the events that cut off my head was discovering the Toddler had climbed onto the chair in front of my laptop. We whisked her away before she had a chance to click something, but we didn’t take time to investigate what she DID have time to do.

Hopefully she wasn’t searching for more hair-raising tricks to pull on Mamaw like curtain climbing. This kid is FAST, lemme tell you! *Mental note*- Suggest her parents sign her up for the Olympics.
