DST…Why? TGIT
Welcome! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you won't miss the Blarties (=blog+party) on the weekends. To find out more about our Blarties check out this post, too. Looking forward to seeing you on the weekends!
TGIT. We’re just a few hours away from TGIF. Why should I care? I don’t have to wake up to an incessant alarm clock reminding me I have to commute to work in the nerve-wracking traffic of the morning rush hour. I do, however, have to rise early in order to get my grandson off to school. Since daylight savings time kicked in early last month, he and I both have had a time getting up early.
Whose bright idea was it to start Daylight Savings Time anyway?! And THIS year somebody decided to make guinea pigs out of ALL of us to see whether or not we can save energy by stretching DST out longer and having more sunlight! Any compensation for us for this trial? It’s work to stay awake this month. DST is catching up with me this month.
We don’t tire out as early in the evenings. There’s too much sunlight at the end of the day so it’s difficult, for me anyway, to wind down and be able to drift off to sleep early enough to get a full night of sleep before the alarm clock intrudes with its incessant ringing. By the end of the week I’m a walking zombie so tired I’m concerned about being mistaken for a drunk driver.
TGIF isn’t going to do me much good if noisy, dream busting alarm clocks are my gripe for the day. So, TGS is just two nights away. Sleep, just let me sleep until I am fully rested, please. Don’t make my hair stand on end and my eyes pop out of my head with their first opening of the day. That’s NOT very appealing to DH in the mornings, you know.
I’ve wondered whether or not alarm clocks have contributed to the levels of stress we experience. I can’t stand for my alarm clock to JOLT me awake. I have it set on a gentle alarm setting. I tried one of those alarms that slowly wakens you with the sounds of nature, but it’s w-a-a-a-a-a-y too slow for me. The sounds of nature lull me back into a deeper sleep. It’s much too relaxing to me to hear those sounds.
I think I’ll look into one that wakens you with light that gradually lightens the environment. Something that doesn’t cause all the nerve endings in my body to feel as though they’ve been struck by a bolt of lightening. I ran across this Wake-n-Bacon homemade alarm on the internet the other day. Now that’s an idea!
Got any other ideas? A high powered, long-armed, boxing Jack-in-the-box alarm clock for those that voted to extend DST maybe? I better quit while I’m ahead…I’m getting delirious and cranky. TGIT
